Energy Efficiency Directive

Directive 2018/2002 on Energy Efficiency of December 11, 2018

The publication of Directive 2018/2002 amends that which had been published on November 14, 2012, Directive 2012/27/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council, on energy efficiency, which amended Directives 2009/125/EC and 2010/30/UE and revoked Directives 2004/8/EC and 2006/32/EC, which were transposed by Decree-Law no. 68-A/2015, of 30 April.

This Directive establishes a common framework of measures to promote energy efficiency, in order to ensure the achievement of the European Union's objective of achieving 32.5% in terms of energy efficiency by 2030 and to pave the way for further improvements in this field beyond that date.

It also establishes rules aimed at eliminating obstacles in the energy market and overcoming market failures that impede efficient energy supply and use, and provides for the establishment of indicative national energy efficiency targets for 2030.

Finally, it should be noted that work is currently underway to transpose Directive (EU) 2018/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2018.
