Itinerary of Mines and Geological and Mining Points of Interest of Portugal
The inherent issues in the exploration activity of geological resources was the driving force for DGEG to consider necessary an integrated vision of these resources and in this context it is essential to promote knowledge of exploration activity and resources valued for their socio-economic relevance and its importance in terms of other areas of knowledge.
Thus, in 2009, the first steps are taken to develop work to promote the dissemination of this area of knowledge and it was understood that it should begin by encouraging or supporting initiatives of all public and private entities. Therefore, given the tools that can be used, the use of a computer platform for dissemination and a focus on initiatives that were based on elements relevant to mining history and the most significant geological aspects nationally proved to be appropriate. This gave rise to the name "Roteiro das Minas e Pontos de Interesse Mineiro e Geológico de Portugal" (Portuguese Mines and Mining and Geological Points of Interest Route) and a close collaboration with EDM, SA, for the establishment of protocols with other entities in order to give visibility and to jointly promote these mining and geological points of interest.
